A single slender plant rises from the lower centre of a portrait frame, its silvery blue-green leaves thin and feathery near the base and thinning out as the stem climbs. The stem leans slightly to the right and ends in a loose cluster of tiny pale yellow-green buds near the top.
The ground around it is dark brown and near black, scattered with rough rust-coloured pebbles and a few grey stones that soften out of focus. The light is low and even, with a cool, dusky cast. This is a photograph, shallow in depth, and the pale plant stands out sharply against the dark soil.
