About Three Amigos
Three horse heads fill a long horizontal canvas against a flat pale blue-grey background. The heads face inward from the left, centre and right, muzzles lowered and ears pricked, with a fourth, ghostly head sketched in thin blue-white paint behind them. Manes and cheeks are broken into blocks of red, yellow, green, orange, purple and cobalt, laid on with a palette knife in thick square dabs that sit above the surface. Dark brown and black strokes hold the drawing of the eyes, nostrils and jawlines.
The background is scraped thin and smooth, so the raised colour patches on the faces catch light and throw small shadows. The result is a bold, graphic animal piece: recognisably three horses, but built from confetti-like colour rather than realistic coat markings.
Built for a wide wall: above a long sofa, a sideboard in an open-plan living room, or a hallway run. The grey ground settles it into concrete, timber or white walls, while the red and yellow dabs pick up bright cushions, rugs and ceramics. Also suits a child's playroom or a country-style home with an equestrian leaning. Browse more animal art, panoramic wall art, pop art.
