About Pastel Petal Cloud
A single oversized bloom fills the square canvas, built almost entirely from thick palette knife strokes. Broad cream and white petals fan outwards from a small dark core of navy, black and yellow flecks, which is surrounded by a tight ring of coral and orange dabs. Between them sit chips of lemon yellow, mint green, pale lilac and soft pink, each laid on as a separate flat slab of paint with visible ridges and knife edges catching the light.
The background is a smoothly brushed blue-grey, cooler at the corners and thinner than the flower itself, so the petals sit forward from the surface. Several petals carry fine combed lines scratched through wet paint, adding a striped texture against the smooth slabs. The mood is light and decorative, closer to a colour study of a flower than a botanical portrait.
Works well in a bedroom above a bedhead, in a nursery, or on a pale wall in a hallway where the blue background keeps it calm. Pairs with white or oak furniture, linen bedding and soft grey upholstery. The square format suits a chimney breast or a narrow wall between two doorways.
