About En Pointe with Kitten
The painting crops a dancer at mid-calf, showing two legs in pale lilac tights rising out of the frame against a flat charcoal-grey floor and wall. Both feet are fully en pointe, the toes pressed into satin shoes painted in warm gold and soft pink, with ribbons crossing the ankles and tied in neat knots. At the left a small brown kitten sits on its haunches, tail curled along the floor, head tipped back to watch the raised heels. Faint reflections pool beneath the shoes.
The surface is smoothly worked, with soft edges on the tights and slightly crisper detail in the ribbons and the kitten's ears. It is a quiet, close-up study rather than a stage scene, built on the contrast between the dancer's strained toes and the kitten's stillness.
Suits a girl's bedroom, a dance school reception, a hallway or a study wall. The grey ground sits well against white, pale grey or dusty pink walls, and the gold shoes pick up brass hooks, timber floors and warm lamplight. Works as a tall single piece beside a mirror or wardrobe. Browse more popular art, contemporary art, all hand-painted oil paintings.
