About Ruby Blossom Radiance
Two large red blooms fill the square canvas, cropped so their petals run off the top and left edges. The lower flower is the largest, its rounded petals sweeping out from a centre packed with yellow, orange and green dabs ringed by small violet and black flecks. Behind it, a second poppy in lighter coral sits high on the left with a smaller green-yellow eye. Pale lilac, cream and white petals crowd the lower edge against a soft grey-green background that is brushed thin and left almost flat.
The paint is thick on the flower heads, with knife-loaded ridges and a combed, corduroy-like texture raked across two petals to catch the light. It is a bold, close-cropped floral with plenty of surface relief and a quiet background that keeps the red the loudest thing in the room.
Works above a sideboard in a neutral hallway, in a white or grey living room, or over a bed as a single square. Pairs with pale timber, linen upholstery and brass lamps, and lifts a plain painted wall where you want one strong point of colour rather than a gallery group.
