A single spray of Sobralia macrantha orchids fills the portrait sheet, with five open blooms and several unopened buds rising from reed-like stems. The petals are deep crimson-pink, shading to paler mauve at the edges. Each ruffled lip is a darker wine red with a bright yellow patch at the centre.
Long, pleated leaves in glossy dark green and lighter yellow-green fan out below and between the flowers. The background is a clean cream white, so the plant stands alone. Small engraved-style lettering runs along the foot, reading "SOBRALIA MACRANTHA", with fine credit text beneath and a plate number at the top right corner. It has the look of a nineteenth-century botanical plate.
