About Making Faces V
A single terracotta line describes a face on a plain white ground. The drawing sits slightly right of centre: two long horizontal brows, almond eyes with small round pupils, a narrow nose that hooks into one nostril, and full lips drawn with two curved strokes. The jaw sweeps down in one unbroken arc. To the left, three loose wavy lines fall from the crown to below the chin, reading as long hair. A small signature in the same rust tone sits in the lower right corner.
The line varies in width as it travels, thickening at the brows and hair and thinning to a hairline at the nose and cheek, with dry, broken edges where the stroke skips. The character is quiet and confident: a face suggested in as few marks as possible, warm terracotta against open white space.
Suits bedrooms, bathrooms, hallways and home offices with white or lime-washed walls. The terracotta reads well beside rattan, oak and linen, and beside clay pots or a pale jute rug. Hang it as a pair with another face print above a bedhead or console, or on its own in a narrow entry. Browse more brown and earthy art, orange art, or read Art above the bed: what size and how high.
