A black and white photograph looking steeply up at one stone and steel tower of the Manhattan Bridge. The tower narrows toward the top of the frame, and the sharp upward angle makes the whole structure lean and tower over the viewer.
A large arch fills the lower half, edged with rows of small scalloped openings and studded with rivets and ornate metal panels. A single street lamp hangs below the arch. Heavy suspension cables cut diagonally across a cloudy sky, and the high contrast gives the metal a crisp, graphic texture.
