Large maple leaves fill the square, layered over one another in deep forest green, mid green and olive yellow. Each leaf shows fine vein lines and pointed lobes, and a few darker leaves sit in shadow near the lower left and centre, giving the cluster depth.
Thin brown twigs cross the leaves and lead the eye through the scene. Behind them the background is a soft wash of aqua, pale lime and cream, with visible brushy strokes that suggest sunlight coming through the canopy. The flat, simplified shapes give it a contemporary painted look.
