About Meditating Buddha
A seated Buddha fills the centre of this square composition, rendered in pale gold and cream against a mottled backdrop of blue-grey, teal and bronze. The figure sits cross-legged in the lotus position, hands resting in the lap, robes falling in folded diagonal lines across the chest and left shoulder. The face is calm and downturned, with a topknot rising to a point above the head. Around the edges, dark bronze and burnt gold form an uneven border that frames the figure like an aged panel.
The surface reads as weathered and layered, with dragged horizontal marks, scraped patches and thin drips of gold running down the blue ground. Colour sits unevenly, so the metallic tones look tarnished in places and bright in others. The overall character is quiet and meditative, with enough surface wear and warm metallic contrast to keep it from feeling flat or decorative.
Suits a bedroom above the bedhead, a yoga or meditation corner, or a home office wall that needs a calm focal point. The gold and teal work with timber furniture, linen bedding, rattan and brass lamps, and sit well against white, grey or deep charcoal walls. Pairs easily with plants and neutral ceramics.
