A large two-masted schooner fills the centre of this vintage lithograph, shown side-on with a dark hull and every sail set. The cream mainsail, foresail and jibs are crisp against a pale grey sky, with fine rigging lines running to the masts. A small flag flies at the stern on the left.
The sea below is a band of dark grey-green water, with white-capped waves and foam breaking in the foreground. Two more ships sit small on the horizon, one at far left and a square-rigged vessel at right. Soft sepia and cream tones give it an aged, printed look, and a caption block sits along the bottom edge naming the yacht, Meteor of New York, and its 1869 departure.
