About Vintage Gibbs Microphone
A close photograph of an early ribbon microphone, centred on a plain black ground. A polished chrome hoop forms a ring around the round capsule, which is suspended inside it by eight coiled brass-toned springs, four on each side. The face of the capsule is a perforated plate with rows of small round holes, crossed on the diagonal by a flat plain bar. Stamped lettering reads GIBBS and CHICAGO at the top, with a serial number below. A tapered post and ball joint carry the head from the base of the frame.
Lighting is tight and directional, so the chrome shows warm cream highlights and the springs read gold against the unbroken black background. The character is quiet and mechanical: a single well-made object, isolated and studied, with every screw, hole and stamped letter in focus.
Suits a home office, music room or recording nook, and works in a living room or bedroom where the walls are white, charcoal or timber-panelled.
