About Twilight Pillar
A row of dark, almost black trees runs straight across the middle of the square canvas, with three narrow conifers rising like spires above the rounded canopies. Behind them the sky burns from pale gold at the horizon into burnt orange and warmer red towards the top. A broad vertical band of deep crimson runs from top to bottom through the centre, overlaid near the middle with scumbled gold and cream squares that look like weathered paint on a post. The lower half falls away into brown-black ground, broken by a small gold-lit rectangle.
Narrow strips of grey-green and ochre edge both sides, framing the scene like the jambs of a doorway. The paint is dragged and scraped rather than blended, with dry brush marks and stippled texture in the tree line. The mood is quiet and heavy, closer to a memory of a landscape than a view of one.
Suits warm-toned living rooms, dining rooms with timber tables, and hallways with brick, leather or dark stained wood. The orange and crimson lift cream, taupe and charcoal walls, and it sits well above a sideboard or a low bookshelf. Pair with brass lamps, rust cushions or a single dark-framed mirror.
