About Flame Tree Riverside
A flowering tree fills the upper half of the canvas, its canopy loaded with scarlet and orange blossom dabbed on in short, thick strokes over darker green foliage. The dark trunk rises at the far left. Beyond the canopy a soft cream and pale blue sky opens onto a mown green clearing, a low white post-and-rail fence, and a second smaller red-flowered tree in the middle distance. The lower third is a quiet river, its surface streaked with pale blue and green reflections and scattered red petals.
tapered white reeds and lily pads break the water at the front, with a bank of green shrubs and red wildflowers between grass and river. The paint sits high in the blossom and low and thin in the water, so the picture moves from busy colour at the top to calm open space at the bottom.
Suits a living room or dining wall painted white, warm grey or soft green, where the red blossom can carry the colour scheme. Works above a timber sideboard, a cane armchair or a bed head, and pairs with linen, rattan and terracotta pots. The portrait shape fits narrow walls, hallway ends and stairwell landings.
