About Tuscan Gold Fields
A tall, narrow view looks up a run of open Tuscan farmland. Along the top edge sit two pale farmhouse shapes flanked by a row of slim cypress trees, barely sketched into the ochre haze. Below them the land falls away in wide horizontal bands of gold, apricot and dusty sage, each band scraped and dragged so the canvas weave and dried ridges of paint show through. Near the lower right a single round-headed tree in deep green anchors the scene, its trunk thin and its shadow a short olive smear across warm sand-coloured ground.
Quiet and sun-bleached, the painting trades detail for atmosphere, with one small tree carrying the whole composition.
The narrow vertical shape suits a hallway, a stairwell wall, a spot beside a doorway or the gap between two windows. The gold and sage tones sit well with linen upholstery, terracotta pots, oak or rattan furniture and cream plaster walls, and work in dining rooms and bedrooms that need warmth without strong colour.
