About Amber Labyrinth
Blocks and bars of warm amber sit across a deep aubergine-brown ground, arranged like a half-finished maze. A tall upright panel runs down the right of centre, its surface scored with close horizontal combed lines. To the left, two narrow amber bars push in from the edge and stop short of a broad amber rectangle that rises to the top of the canvas. A smaller amber block is cropped by the upper right edge. The dark ground carries a faint violet cast where the paint thins.
The texture is the point: raised ridges, scratched lines and a granular crust catch the light across the gold shapes, so the picture shifts as you move past it.
Works above a dark timber sideboard, in a hallway with warm downlights, or over a leather sofa in a lounge with brown, tan and charcoal tones. It sits well with brass lamps, walnut furniture and cream walls, and the horizontal format suits the space above a bedhead or a long dining table. The quality of the work is ten out of ten. The piece was affordable and the turnaround time was quite quick. What you see is what you get. I’ll definitely be getting my next painting from Direct Art Australia.
My wife already had a couple of pieces of custom ordered paintings she had collected throughout the last few years and with your large selection to choose from she found the perfect complimentary piece to finish off her room.
