A weathered timber rowboat sits at the centre of the frame, bow pointing at the viewer, with a chain and a looped rope trailing down into the water. One oar leans out to the left and a second rises behind the stern on the right. The hull is a soft rusty pink, and its dark reflection pools beneath it.
The water is flat and smooth, almost like glass, after a long exposure. Above a low line of hazy mountains the clouds are pulled into wide streaks that radiate from the horizon. The sky moves from deep plum at the top to pale pink and cream near the hills, with a muted, toned feel across the whole square image.
