About Violin and Mandolin Still Life
A full-size violin lies on its side across a plain wooden table, its scroll and pegs at the left and its f-holes and amber-toned body filling the centre right. A round-backed mandolin with a pale soundboard rests behind it, and a smaller violin and a slender bow sit in front, angled towards the viewer. A few sheets of music slide out from under the instruments. Behind, a bare plaster wall carries a bright slanted rectangle of window light, with soft shadow falling to the right.
The whole scene is worked in warm browns, amber and cream with a fine grainy texture across the wall and tabletop, so edges stay soft rather than sharp. It has the quiet, still mood of an afternoon room where the playing has just stopped.
Suits a music room, study or home office above a desk or upright piano, and works in a bedroom or formal living room with warm timber furniture.
