About Wentworth Falls

A wide curtain of water pours over a dark rock ledge that runs across the middle of the frame, breaking into separate ribbons as it drops onto a lower shelf and then slides into the pool at the foot of the image. A long exposure has smoothed the water into soft white streaks with no visible droplets. Behind and above, a second smaller cascade steps down from the top left. Dense green rainforest fills both sides, with ferns, shrubs and slender trunks crowding the wet stone.

The foreground pool is the surprise: shallow water over an ochre and rust-coloured stone bed, with pale swirls of current curling out from the base of the falls. A large tan boulder sits at the right edge, wet and streaked. The overall character is cool, quiet and green, warmed by that unusual golden-brown water at the bottom.
