Two racehorses gallop side by side towards the viewer along a sandy track, the chestnut on the left and a darker bay on the right with a white blaze down its face. The jockeys crouch low over their necks, one in a maroon cap and silks, the other in a yellow cap with dark jacket and white breeches.
The background is a loose, scrubby wash of olive green, grey and brown, with a white rail running across behind the horses. The track is pale gold with soft shadows under the hooves and a few small clods kicked up. Brushwork is visible and textured, and a signature sits at the lower left corner.
