About New York City at Night
An elevated night view looks north over Manhattan, with the camera high above a dense grid of low rooftops, water tanks and fire escapes. The buildings are held in cool charcoal and grey, while every avenue and side street glows amber and orange from sodium street lighting, drawing straight lines of light back toward the skyline. Lit windows scatter gold across the mid-ground, and in the distance the Empire State Building and surrounding towers rise against a flat, overcast slate sky.
The effect is selective colour: a near monochrome city with warm light left switched on. It reads as graphic and moody rather than pretty, with the eye pulled along the lit streets to the horizon.
Suits a home office, media room or hallway where the grey and amber can sit against white or charcoal walls. Works above a dark timber desk, a leather sofa or a sideboard, and pairs well with black metal lamps, glass and other city or travel photography in black frames.
