About Times Square at Night
A night-time view straight down Times Square in New York, taken from street level in the middle of the road. Illuminated billboards stack up both sides of the frame in blue, magenta, orange and white, with legible signage including Kodak, HSBC and a Pepsi cola board on the right. A tall narrow screen tower sits dead centre against a black sky, flanked by dark building facades. Below, traffic and pedestrians blur into streaks of red and gold light that sweep toward the viewer.
The long exposure gives the picture its character: the buildings stay razor sharp while the cars dissolve into ribbons. It reads as a busy, high-colour city photograph rather than a quiet night scene.
