About Northern Lagoon
The upper two thirds of this horizontal composition is a wide sky of cream, pale blue and soft grey cloud, broken by a warm yellow glow near the centre horizon. Below it a low band of blue-grey water stretches from edge to edge, catching that same light as a pale reflection in the middle of the frame. Dark brown and near-black shoreline banks run in from both the left and right foreground, flattening as they meet the shallow water. Colour is blended wet into wet, with horizontal streaks and soft edges throughout.
There is no sharp detail anywhere, only bands of tone that read as sky, water and land. The character is quiet and slightly moody: cool blues and greys held together by a warm centre of light, more a remembered coastline than a specific place.
Suits a living room above a low sofa or sideboard, a main bedroom above the bedhead, or a coastal-style hallway. The cool blues sit well with white and grey walls, linen upholstery, pale oak and rattan, while the dark shoreline band ties in with charcoal, black metal frames and darker timber floors.
