About Northern Pygmy Owl
A small owl fills the upper two thirds of this portrait format image, turned slightly to one side with both amber-yellow eyes fixed on the viewer. The crown and back are dark charcoal flecked with pale spots, while the chest is streaked cream and grey-brown. A warm golden light rims the right side of the head, shoulder and flank, separating the bird from a softly blurred background of smoky brown and grey. Yellow talons grip the edge of a split timber post below.
The cut log is rendered in cool lilac, blue-grey and bone white, its cracked grain and torn splinters contrasting with the soft, layered feathers above. The mood is quiet and watchful, a close wildlife study lit like late afternoon.
Suits a living room, study or home office where a single focused image works better than a group. The brown and charcoal background sits well with timber furniture, leather, linen and jute.
