About NYC
Three oversized letters, N, Y and C, fill the centre of the canvas in heavy block type. Each letter is painted charcoal to near-black and carries ghosted words inside it, with "NEW YORK" and "CITY" showing through in pale grey, plus faint rows of windows and building shapes that read like a skyline seen through the type. Behind them the surface is painted as vertical timber planks, whitewashed in the middle and darkening to rust brown and smoky grey at the four edges.
The mood is industrial and worn, like a salvaged warehouse sign. Dry-brushed paint, scuffed edges and layered stencil marks keep the surface rough rather than graphic.
Suits a hallway, home office, teenager's room or an open-plan living area with exposed brick, blackened steel or recycled timber. Works above a low sideboard or a leather sofa, and pairs with grey linen, black-framed photographs and industrial pendant lighting. The rust and off-white tones settle easily against white or concrete-look walls. Browse more streetscapes, modern art, the Statton Collection.
