A black and white photograph looks straight down a dirt road lined with old live oaks. Their thick, twisting limbs reach out sideways and meet overhead, forming a long tunnel of branches. Long strands of moss hang from the boughs, and the trunks on either side grow smaller as the road runs toward the vanishing point.
The light is soft and even, with a bright pale glow at the far end of the avenue. Puddles of water in the roadside ditches catch the sky and show as pale streaks in the foreground. Leaf litter covers the ground under the trees. The greys run from deep charcoal in the trunks to near white in the distance, giving a strong sense of depth.
