A single magnolia flower fills most of the square frame, opened wide so the thick cream-white petals curl and overlap around a small grey-green centre of stamens. The petals are smooth and slightly waxy, with soft shadows pooling in the folds where one petal tucks behind another.
The backdrop is a mottled panel of rust brown, deep maroon and patches of weathered teal, with a vertical band of blue-green on the right. A dark leaf sits low on the left beneath the bloom. The photograph has a muted, toned finish, and a small signature sits in the bottom right corner.
