A large red tulip fills the centre of this square image, its petals opened wide to show dark stamens and a pale yellow throat. Broad, streaked brushstrokes run along each petal in deep red, with flashes of orange and cream where the light catches the edges. A short green stem drops from the base.
Around it, more tulips are cropped by the frame: two in red at the top corners, and cream and apricot blooms at the bottom right. The background is a mottled gold and beige, applied in loose layers. The texture is thick and visible, giving the flowers a warm, sunlit look in a painterly style.
