A cluster of circles overlaps down the centre of this portrait composition, each disc carrying its own pattern. Two large cobalt discs are filled with fine polka dots, one holding a pale zigzag ring at its core. Beside them sit circles crossed by thin white lines like tangled string, a yellow and red disc split into segments, and smaller ovals in mustard, turquoise and grey. Where the circles cross, colours change: reds turn orange, blues deepen to navy, whites glow through.

The background is a scratched, streaked field of teal, mauve and warm brown with vertical scoring, printed with the grain and flecking of the original surface visible. Blocks of yellow and green marbling break the edges top and bottom. The overall character is playful and busy but held together by a limited palette of blue, red and yellow, with pattern doing the work that shading usually does.
