A brown pelican fills the left and centre of the frame, banking in flight with both wings fully spread. The long primary feathers at each wingtip fan out in dark fingers, and the warm brown and tan wing coverts catch the soft light. Its pale head, dark neck stripe and long grey bill point to the right.
Behind the bird, a flat expanse of silvery grey-blue water stretches to a hazy headland of low cliffs. A thin jetty runs out from the shore at upper right, faint in the mist. The background is softly blurred, so the sharp feather detail stands out in this muted, quiet photograph.
