A brown pelican fills the frame in mid-flight, its wings stretched in a long diagonal from the upper left to the lower right. The long bill is slightly open and the head shows a pale yellow crown, a dark neck stripe and a hint of chestnut at the back of the neck.
Below, deep teal water breaks into white foam against dark rock. Behind the bird, a smooth sandstone cliff in warm tan and brown bands sits out of focus. The wing feathers glow amber where light catches them. This is a sharp, close wildlife photograph with a shallow background.
