A vintage botanical plate on a warm cream ground showing several species of dianthus, or pinks. Each plant is drawn on its own slender stem with narrow grey-green leaves. Small Latin names sit beside each one, with the heading "Dianthus" at the top and "Caryophyllene. CCLXI" in the top right corner.
The largest plant sits at the bottom centre, a fringed carnation in deep crimson, white and black with two paler pink blooms beside it. Above are smaller flowers in soft pink, one with a ring of red petals around a white centre. Some plants are left as faint outline sketches, so the hand-coloured engraving look stays visible.
