Large open peonies crowd the frame in a loose watercolour wash. Their petals shift from deep magenta to soft pink and peach, with bright yellow and orange stamens at each centre. Some petals are left as bare white paper, which gives the blooms a translucent look.
Green leaves and stems fill the gaps between the flowers in layered, overlapping washes. A dark blue patch shows at the top left and upper edge, and thin drips of pigment run downward through the foliage. Fine speckles and soft bleeding edges show where the wet colour has pooled and mixed.
