Several open pink peonies fill this landscape watercolour, their petals built from soft washes that shift between pale blush, rose and deeper magenta. Each bloom has a bright yellow centre flecked with dark red stamens, which gives the eye clear points to settle on across the picture.
Around the flowers, green leaves and stems are laid in with loose, overlapping strokes in sage, emerald and lime. Two small round buds sit on the right and one near the top left. White paper shows through in places, and the colour bleeds and blooms where the washes meet, giving a fresh, translucent feel.
