A single magenta tulip sits at the centre of a square composition, drawn as stained glass. The petals swirl with milky pink, white and deep plum, each segment divided by fine dark leadlines. Long green leaves with streaky, translucent colour fan out to the left and curve up behind the bloom, and a slender green stem runs down to the lower edge.
The background is cut into curved panels of mixed pattern. At left, a cream panel carries bold black scrolls, and a black panel below shows faint rose motifs. A purple section sits behind the flower, and pale yellow panels with botanical leaf prints fill the upper right. A mottled olive-gold panel with a rough, plaster-like texture takes up the lower right corner.
