A cluster of large red and coral poppies fills this landscape watercolour. Several open blooms face forward with dark green and black centres speckled with fine ink-like dots. Their petals are layered and translucent, with soft pink highlights where the pigment thins and deeper scarlet where it pools.
Tall olive green stems, rounded seed buds and feathery serrated leaves rise between the flowers. Behind them, washes of teal, violet, ochre and plum blend into a loose background. Visible blooms and bleeds of colour give a wet-on-wet look, and a signature sits at the lower right.
