About Poppy II
A single large poppy fills most of this square composition, its broad petals opening in layered rings of red and coral. Lighter salmon tones catch the upper edges while deeper crimson gathers in the folds, and fine pale veins run the length of each petal. At the centre sits a dense crown of yellow-gold stamens, packed like a shaggy ring around a small green seed head. Below, a tight unopened bud leans to the left on a dark olive stem, flanked by narrow pointed leaves.
The background is a soft, mottled wash of gold, ochre and warm beige that darkens towards the corners, giving the flower a glowing, almost antique setting. Small speckles and tonal variation in the ground suggest an aged wall or parchment. The overall character is warm and traditional, a classic botanical study that stays calm rather than loud despite the strong red at its heart.
Suits dining rooms, bedrooms and hallways with warm neutral or cream walls, and works well in country, Hamptons and traditional interiors.
