A woman in a yellow-green dress sits on a pale wicker sofa with one arm stretched along the backrest. Beside her a young girl in a light blue top lies back with bare legs stretched out, eyes closed, an open book resting across them. Both figures are built from broad, thick strokes of buttery yellow, soft blue and warm peach.
At left, a round wicker table holds a glass vase of pink and white blooms and a single orange-red apple. Behind the sofa, big dark green leaves fill the top of the frame, and shadowed blue-green ground sits below. The brushwork is loose and visible throughout, with dabs of white catching sunlight on the table top and sofa.
