Two tulips stand in sharp focus near the centre of a horizontal frame: a yellow one on the left with smooth, pale-edged petals, and a deep red one on the right with a darker, tightly closed cup. Both rise on slim green stems of slightly different heights.
Everything else dissolves into soft yellow. Dozens of out-of-focus tulip heads fill the background and foreground as warm, glowing blobs, with a strip of blue sky at the top edge. Blades of green leaf cut across the lower corners. It is a photograph with shallow depth of field and bright daylight.
