A rooster walks left across a yellow-ochre yard, his body turned in profile with the head lowered. The comb and wattle are deep red, the eye a small dark dot, and the beak pale yellow. His neck and breast blaze orange and gold, with loose strokes of green across the shoulder and flecks of orange scattered over the belly.
The tail sweeps up and back in dark teal, navy and violet feathers, with pale blue highlights where the colour thins. Behind him a grey-purple post and a chain-link fence are suggested in faint wobbly lines. The yard is washed in mustard and olive with white paper left bare as speckles of light. Soft edges and pooled colour give it a loose watercolour feel.
