Two ruffled poppies in soft grey and white tones sit against a deep black background. The upper bloom tilts sideways, its crinkled petals folding into pleated layers. The lower, fuller flower faces the viewer, with a frilled edge and shadowed creases between the petals.
A slender stem curves over to a closed, drooping bud on the right, and a third bloom is cut off at the left edge. Fine vertical brush marks run through the dark ground. The tonal shading gives the petals a papery, translucent look, in a monochrome illustration style.
