A single red poppy sits in the upper left of a square cream ground. Its petals are built from broad, streaky brushstrokes in scarlet and crimson, with a yellow centre flecked with dark brown. Beside it a yellow bud hangs from a bent stem, and a dark green bud tips in at the upper right.
Thin stems in olive green, ochre and soft brown run down through the lower half, some of them crossing in loose curves. Pale blue washes drip down the right side and faint pink streaks run at lower left, leaving much of the cream surface bare. A small signature sits at the bottom right. The look is loose and gestural, like a painting.
