A large peony in deep sepia and chocolate brown fills the upper half, its ruffled petals fading to tan at the edges. The centre is a cluster of yellow dots flecked with blue. A thin green stem drops straight down the middle of the portrait panel.
Around it sit paler blooms in cream and white, with yellow centres and soft, chalky petals. Behind them runs a faint scrolling damask pattern in honey and beige. Fine vertical lines across the surface give the look of linen weave, and a lower daisy-like flower is drawn in light radiating strokes.
