Eight shells and one starfish are grouped loosely in a heart-like cluster on a warm cream background. A large fanned scallop sits at the upper right, with a five-armed starfish above a coiled snail shell at the top left. Below them are a spiny murex, a knobbly whelk and a tall spiral turret shell.
The drawing is done in black ink line work, with fine hatching and stippling that gives each shell its ridges, pits and shadow. There is no colour beyond black and cream, and no horizon or sand. A small round top shell sits at the bottom right, and wide empty margins surround the group.
