About Colourful Lion
A lion's head fills the right two-thirds of the canvas, cropped so the far side of the face runs off the edge and the left third is left plain white. The mane is built from long flat strokes of magenta, lemon yellow, cyan, orange and grass green, each one laid beside the next with a clean edge rather than blended. The muzzle is lilac and pink, the nose black, and the chin whiskers are painted in white with a warm cream shadow.
The eyes are mismatched on purpose: one clear blue, one green, both ringed with black liner-like strokes. Dark navy and black shape the right cheek and ear, giving the colour somewhere to sit. It is a bold, graphic portrait with a calm, direct gaze.
Works in a living room with white or pale grey walls, above a low sideboard or a plain sofa, where the empty white left side gives the colour room to breathe.
