About Youth
A dense block of short palette-knife strokes sits in the centre of a white canvas, leaving clean unpainted margins on all four sides. The marks are mostly vertical, laid side by side like a loose grid, with a few horizontal sweeps cutting across the middle and lower left. Colours run through turquoise, mint and grass green, lemon yellow, cream and hot pink, with the pink strongest along the left edge and the upper right corner. Paint is pressed on thickly, ridges catching light, and a thin drip runs down from the lower centre.
The mood is light and springlike: bright, high-key colour kept in order by the white ground and the steady rhythm of the strokes. A small signature sits in the lower right.
Suits a light-filled living room, bedroom or nursery with white or pale grey walls, and works well above a low sideboard or a bedhead. Pairs with pale timber, linen upholstery, rattan and brass.
