About Sky Buddha
A grey stone Buddha fills the right two-thirds of the upright canvas, cropped at the shoulders and above the topknot so only the head, chest and one raised arm are shown. The face is seen at a slight angle, eyes lowered, lips closed, with the tight snail-shell curls of the hair carefully worked in small rounded marks. The right hand lifts palm-outward at chest height, thumb and index finger touching. Behind it the sky is painted in streaked blues, from pale near the figure to deep ultramarine at the lower left edge.
The stone is built up in dry, granular greys with darker pitting along the robe and forearm, so the surface reads as weathered carved rock rather than smooth plaster. The mood is quiet and still, with the cool sky doing all the movement while the figure stays fixed.
Suits a bedroom, hallway or meditation and yoga space, and works well in a bathroom or ensuite with pale tiles. The cool blues sit easily with white or grey walls, timber furniture, linen bedding and rattan or stone accessories. Hang it alone at eye level rather than in a group.
