A wave hits a shoreline of rounded dark boulders and throws a dense plume of white foam and spray high into the air. The photograph is black and white, and the frozen droplets show up crisp against the grey water behind the break, with individual flecks hanging at the edges of the plume.
The boulders fill the lower left corner, their glossy surfaces catching small highlights. A darker submerged rock sits inside the foam at centre. The horizon runs straight across the upper third beneath a plain, even grey sky, which leaves the churning white water as the clear focus of the frame.
