A long timber jetty crosses the frame from the lower left towards the horizon, its planks silvered and cracked with age. Thick posts of different heights line both edges, and two small glass lamps sit on posts, one near the centre and a few smaller ones further along.
The water is glassy and almost black, with the jetty legs and posts fading into soft reflections. Long exposure has smeared the clouds into pale diagonal streaks above a thin, dark strip of far shoreline. The square black and white photograph moves from bright sky to deep shadow at the bottom.
