Six broken concrete pillars stand in flat, glassy water, three on the left and three on the right, leaving an open gap in the middle. Their tops are chipped and cracked, and a few bent rusty rods and twigs poke out of the stumps. One thin stick juts sideways from the lowest pillar on the left.
The image is a black and white photograph in a square format. A long exposure has smoothed the water into a soft grey haze that merges with the pale sky, so the horizon almost disappears. Faint reflections fade beneath each pillar. The tones run from near black at the base of the stumps to bright white at the top of the frame.
